Be True To Yourself
A playful and poetic book for teenage girls (and the teenage girl in all of us)
Adolescence can be a wild and wonderful ride with so many new experiences, so much growth and so much energy. There can also be so much pressure to conform, fit in and do what everybody else is doing. Sometimes it can be hard to know who you are, who you want to be and what you want to do.
Be True To Yourself will encourage your imagination, nourish your heart and fortify your sense of self-worth. You will find comfort and insight in these pages. You will also find creative solutions for making sense of all thoughts and feelings inside of you as well as for navigating the unexpected and tumultuous events in the world around you.

3 Excerpts From Be True To Yourself
Day 1: Fingerprint
Hello!
You are here, alive, eyes open. Your eyes, the window to your soul, and did you know that the swirls and whirls inside your iris pools are unique to you?
Look in the mirror. Look at the colorful part of your eyes. These are your irises. The subtle lines, dots and variations of color you see inside those irises are extraordinary, because those patterns only exist inside of you.
Never before did a person have those patterns in their eyes. Never again will those patterns be recreated.
Jeepers creepers, your peepers prove it! And so does your tongue and your fingerprint and your toe-print and your lip-print and your tongue and even your teeth: There is nobody like you.
Day 102: Your Body Is Your Home
Throughout your life, you might live in many houses, many cities, many countries, but you will only live in one body. Your body is your lifetime home.
Your body is the container that holds your hurts and your joys. It is the thing that lets you hug and hold hands and feel the breeze and taste food and read books and hear music and see the moon. It is the vessel through which you experience life. From the painful to the mundane to the glorious, your body takes part in it all.
Your body, exactly as it looks and feels in this very moment, is worthy of every ounce of devotion, delight and care that you can lavish upon it. I hope you know this.
Your body is your home. Treat it well.
Day 359: Fireflies
Launch your pain into the sky. There’s enough space for it there.
Throw your pain on the ground. It’s strong enough to hold it for you.
Release your pain to the wind, let blow away.
Send your pain out to sea and watch it sail into the distance.
Toss your pain into a volcano for the lava to burn.
Give it to the birds. They will use it for their nests. Give it to the squirrels. They will stock it up to eat in winter.
Let the rain wash it away. Let the sun dry it up. Let the fireflies use it for fuel.
Aren’t fireflies amazing, how they light up in the dark?
You can do that too, you know. You can shine your light even when you feel dark.
