“I have never experienced anything like your classes. My brain and my body feel so connected. Thank you again for sharing your gift. The way you teach is truly what has made me love lifting weights.”

“I love how Amanda set us up to get the benefits of traditional strength exercises, but with a focus on the body in a respectful, thoughtful way. These exercises feel new and radical compared to more common fitness classes.”

Join me in the studio if you…

Are a woman over 40 whose body shape has changed abruptly

You’d like to do something about it, but in a way that isn’t punishing, based on shame or attempting to chase youth.

Want a simple way to remain consistent in your workouts

Just hit “play” and following along a few times each week.

Hope to keep saying “yes” to life’s adventures for decades to come

Staying strong is the best way to ensure that you can meet all the challenges and adventures that life brings your way.

Need the most impact for your time

With over 25 years of coaching experience, I know how to create workouts to give you the most benefit for your time.

Prefer not to deal with the hassle of going to a gym

No crowds. No obnoxious music. No shouting instructors. No looking for parking. No sharing sweaty equipment.

Appreciate skilled coaching

Most online fitness programs are taught by instructors with literally no experience coaching people. I have 25+ years working as a coach and bring my expertise to every class.

Don’t like fitness culture

You want to feel good, but aren’t interested in being obsessed with exercise and your physical appearance. You are put off by the punishing nature of many fitness classes.

Value inner experience over outer appearance

How you feel during each movement and after each workout is most important of all.

Hope to maintain muscle mass and bone density

Strength training is the most potent lifestyle tool we have for building and maintaining muscle and bone.

Prefer to go at your own speed

You are encouraged to move at your own pace and given options for each exercise. There’s no pressure to keep up with somebody else.

What course participants say:

“I'm sending in a report from the field. I went out for my first intense mountain biking session of the season today. I was so glad I've been doing this program. Felt myself recruiting strength in my legs in a whole new way and it was way easier going up hills.”

“I just finished my 36 Spring into Summer workouts. I am objectively stronger. I started using only 5# and 8#. 10# was a stretch and I didn’t even own 12#.  Now, I’m pretty much exclusively using 12# for all exercises. I’m toned, have lost weight and see my cardio health improving too.”

What you need for the studio:

Equipment

Dumbbells

We use dumbbells (sometimes called “hand weights”) in this class. You can definitely get started without any equipment, but you will eventually likely want to access a pair of dumbbells. Click here for my recommendations on dumbbells.

Studio Prerequisites

Be injury and pain free.

Most of us experience regular aches and pains that crop up from time to time. These things do not need to prohibit you from taking class. But if you have more significant pain, acute or long-standing injuries, or if you have any reason to feel unsure about your ability to participate safely in this class, please discuss this with your doctor or physical therapist before joining the studio.

Be comfortable performing (or adapting) the essential movement patterns.

Studio classes are built on the essential movement patterns: Squat, Hinge, Push, Pull and Overhead. If you have any doubt about your ability to perform or adapt these moves, please email me to confirm if this program is a good fit for you before signing up.

Be self-directed and able to listen to your body.

Because this is a general group fitness class, I cannot make recommendations for every possible scenario or for the wide variety of specific needs that a person might have during class. This means that you need to listen to your body and be willing to back off or change direction when needed. If you are unsure about your ability to do this, I encourage you to schedule a private consultation with me.

Have 2 days per week to commit to class.

In order to get the benefits of this work, you need to commit to at least 2 (and up to 4) classes per week. Classes are a maximum of 30 minutes. Of course sometimes life gets in the way and there will be some weeks in which you don’t do any classes. This is normal and OK, as long as you are generally remaining consistent with 2 - 4 classes per week.

Note:

Movement Muse Studio classes are created for people with movement experience.

If you need a beginner level class, try my Beginnings + Basics: A Simple Start to Getting Stronger.

What course participants say:

“Feeling so much joy having a workout companion on demand. No running to gym, no excuses to skip, loving the flexibility and companionship not having to do it alone or the stress of going somewhere else.”

“Consistency is so important and it is the aspect of strength training that has eluded me until I started the Spring Into Summer program. I no longer find myself resisting workouts, because the classes are so manageable and fun. I am finally seeing the value of steady and consistent work.”

Because being stronger makes everything that you love to do even better.

It’s easier than you might think.

When it comes to developing strength, consistency matters more than intensity, length or variety.

You don’t have to do hour-long workouts on most days of the week to get the benefits of strength training.

2 - 3 days per week of 20 - 30 minutes is plenty, as long as you show up consistently.

That’s where the studio comes in.

All you need is a pair of dumbbells (any weight will do) and the willingness to devote 20 - 30 minutes on 2 - 3 days per week.

Simply hit play and follow along with me!

What course participants say:

“The philosophy and structure around your teaching has been the missing piece for me. The improvements I am seeing and feeling in my own strength are huge…and building my sense of self-confidence as an added bonus. Training with you has been the best discovery of my 40s!”

“I am noticing great strength returning to my legs plus increased balance. Your cues are a lifesaver for getting these patterns and moves right. Thank you for allowing us to go at own pace and reinforcing form with cues to prevent injury. I’m seeing results and feeling so great!”

Strength is your ability to take action in the world.

It is your ability to carry the bags of compost across the yard to the flower beds.

Your ability to answer with a spontaneous “Yes!” when a new friend invites you for a hike on a sunny afternoon.

To chase the dog when she gets off the leash.

To move the heavy box up and down from the top shelf.

To sit on the floor, play with the kids and stand up again.

To quickly right yourself when you stumble off a curb.

To stir and stir (and keep stirring and stirring) the risotto.

To reach your leg over the top tube of your bicycle and pedal it where you please.

To paint and dance and chop and ski and carry groceries to the car and carry the kayak to the water and do whatever else it is you need and want to do.

Strength makes everything more enjoyable, infusing your life with a little more ease.

Strength allows you to act without hesitation and meet the challenges and adventures that life brings your way.

Strength infuses life with ease.

What studio participants say:

“The test for me was doing a big backcountry hike and feeling strong and stable on the whole trip. No joint or foot pain or hobbling around after it was all over. The stability and strength work has been a game changer for my body. Thank you Amanda!”

“I have bounced around from workout to workout for years. I’ve tried gyms, trainers, classes, developing my own, but nothing has stuck and, therefore, no results.  But your program HAS stuck and has become a necessary part of my day. And I am seeing dramatic results.”
